How to Take Time for Yourself Without Thinking You’re Selfish

I am a huge advocate for self-care, and a big part of that is taking time for oneself. I believe the biggest hurdle that prevents us from practising this on a regular basis is the belief that we are “selfish” if we take time for ourselves to do nothing, or to do something nurturing for ourselves.

I do everything in my power as a therapist to convince people that taking time for ourselves is anything but selfish: we can only give to others when we are nourished ourselves. In order to nurture ourselves, and have the energy to care for others, we have to recharge our batteries on a regular basis by taking time out for ourselves.

I recently interviewed an amazing woman called Megan Snedden, who is changing the world through her acts of kindness.  As I was preparing for the interview, I found the following video on her website, watched it and fell in love.

I finally feel that I have the perfect answer to the question of whether it is ‘selfish’ to take time for ourselves thanks to Megan! Watch this fun and wise video and decide for yourself.  Then, lock the bathroom door, run yourself a bubble bath, light candles and luxuriate for as long as you need to in order to feel rejuvenated and able to care for others once again.
