On this Mother’s Day, I want to focus on the concept of “mothering” yourself. Over the course of my work, I have discovered that every woman “mothers” in her own unique way. Some of us have biological or adopted human children, while others opt for “fur babies”.
I welcomed two kittens into my home at a time when my biology was screaming “last chance to reproduce”! Abe and Ike were perfect!
Here I must mention a sad truth about most of the women I have ever met:
Most of us are very good at extending endless compassion and caring towards others, but often fail to give it to ourselves.
Hence, why I am writing this blog post. I want to help you become better at giving yourself compassion and care. After all, there is great spiritual wisdom in the announcement made on airline flights:
Put your own oxygen mask on before assisting others.
Following are some articles on the tools and techniques I share with my clients to help them develop self-compassion. Try one, a few, or even all of them! If you find them helpful, please write a comment below letting us know what works for you and how you are applying it to your life. Enjoy ‘mothering’ yourself! You deserve it.

In this post-In a Foul Mood? Embrace Your Inner Crab, I explain in detail the importance of being honest with yourself about what you are feeling. This is especially helpful when you are irritated and/or angry. If you are stuffing feelings down, you can’t feel or extend compassion towards yourself.
