I admit it- I’m a podcast addict. Every morning, I look forward to listening to a spiritually uplifting and enlightening podcast. I recently began listening to a really interesting one called Mindful Living Spiritual Awakening with Psychologist Dr. Marjo Puleo. The topic I chose was “Conscious Entrepreneurship” where she interviewed Christopher Plowman, CEO of a meditation app called Insight Timer.
Being a daily meditator, I had heard about this app but never used it. Once I heard Christopher explain why he developed it, I immediately downloaded it and started using it. I use it twice every single day now and don’t know what I’d do without it. In short, he and his brother bought the app which was already up and running and then added their ideas to make it incredibly attractive and user-friendly. The part that really impressed me was that they decided from the outset that they weren’t going to charge anything for any of the meditations available on the app (there are thousands of free meditations which are excellent) because that’s not in line with the spiritual lineage of Buddhist principles and teachings.
They do, however have all manner of excellent meditation courses for purchase if people want that sort of thing. But a large bulk of their content is available for absolutely anyone at ZERO cost. This makes the practice of meditation is being made widely available to millions of people worldwide regardless of their financial means. To give you a sense of how popular it is, they currently have 12 million users!

After spending too much time playing with my exciting new app, I was thrilled to discover that along with excellent guided meditations, there are also guided audio scripts to help relieve anxiety, let go of negative thinking, increase happiness, deal with difficult emotions, and sleep better. It also has soothing, relaxing music you can enjoy while you’re cooking, cleaning or lying in the bath. And if that’s not enough, as the name suggests, it has a ‘timer’ feature you can use to time your meditations. Incredible!
One of my absolute favourite meditations I try to do every day is the Loving Kindness Meditation. Insight Timer has more than ten different versions of this! The app boasts over 5,500 meditation teachers and musicians and the list is growing all the time. My absolute favourite teacher, Tara Brach of the RAIN meditation lineage is on there and you can bet your bootie I downloaded all of her meditations!
