Why do so Many Highly Sensitive People Develop Eating Disorders?

5 February 2023 by Esther Kane

I recently had the pleasure of being interviewed by Dr. Vera Tarman and Clarissa Kennedy on the Food Junkies Podcast. I am a huge fan of Dr. Tarman’s work and I also interviewed her on my podcast which will be coming out soon. As well, I will be interviewing food addiction coaches, Clarissa Kennedy and Molly Painschab in the near future about their combined endeavour called Sweet Sobriety so be sure to watch for that as well.

In this interview, we spoke at length about the intersection between the highly sensitive personality and eating disorders. Here is a detailed list of topics covered:

My personal journey to recovery from eating disorders to food addiction

What is a Highly Sensitive Person?

The connection between HSPs & Food Addiction

How to take care of your HSP-specific needs

The difference between men & women when it comes to food addiction

How I differentiate between food addiction & eating disorders

The intergenerational transmission of disordered eating

How I help clients with emotional eating

My thoughts on volume eating

The obstacles I find working with clients

The pushback I receive from colleagues about my perspective

If you enjoy listening to this, please pass it on to others so that they may benefit as well!
